Tyler and I started out at about 9 am. It was raining. Took us a while to get started.. even though we skipped breakfast (at $9.95 for eggs and toast). We rode north from mile marker 422 towards Watson Lake at the border of the Yukon.... some 300 kms away. We ran into road construction at a couple locations.. one spot was muddy and very slippery (hairy) for both of us to navigate. Today we saw along the road... one huge male moose crossing the road, 2 herds of buffalo, and about a dozen black bears. Tyler is better at spotting these than I am. Just as the rain was ending we reached Laird Hot Springs where there are natural setting hot springs. Place was busy. $5 each for us.. what a bargain I thought. Water was hot – very hot and the natural pool was large and lots of people there, but not crowded. Best thing on the trip so far. Weather dried out.. our core temp was normal after the hot soak and we made good time as the road was less twisty. Made it to Watson Lake mid afternoon. I noticed my rear tire was worn down to the limit – good I change it tomorrow in Whitehorse – 450 kms away. The ride to Whitehorse was relatively uneventful.. no wildlife at all. We stopped to take some video when riding with Tyler’s camera and mount. The videos are shaky as it turns out. Got to Whitehorse just after 8 pm... went to nice dinner and then found a camp and set up for the night. It is now midnight and still light out. Enough that inside the tent is still dusky. Time to turn in.
